CATHARINE WATSON

Catharine Watson, is a renowned floral designer born in Boston (Lincolnshire), USA. Catharine was surrounded by the horticultural industry. Catharine's family were involved in growing flowers, so her entry into floral industry is not seen as a surprise.

Catharine was first trained at the Lincoln School of Art and later in London at Hammersmith College of Art. At first after graduating she entered the fashion industry and then moved on to interior designing. Catharine worked for well known building contractors, and soon became specialised in the design of interiors for show homes.

Today Catharine has has turned her design training full circle by designing her own garden here in Dorset. Catharine uses her plant material grown in her garden for foliage to create beautiful floral designs.

• Gardening is second nature and allows her to express her design skills by creating different rooms in the garden with interesting features and diverse plant material.

• Catharine is a National Demonstrator for the National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies (NAFAS).
• Catharine is a regular contributor to The Flower Arranger, the NAFAS National magazine.
• Catharine demonstrated at the SAFAS Conference in St. Andrews, Scotland in August 2000.
• Catharine represented NAFAS at the Euroflora international conference on modern trends in floral design in Genova, Italy in 2001.
• Catharine is a Founder member and past Chairman of Visions, a contemporary floral design group.
• Catharine is a Past Chairman of the Judges, Demonstrators, Teachers & Speakers for Dorset & Guernsey area of NAFAS.
• Catharine is working as a sub-editor of the innovative contemporary floral design and teaching magazine fusion flowers.

Catharine's Achievements

• In 1997 she was invited as an individual designer to participate in a celebration at Canterbury Cathedral, creating a large exhibit which hung in the Nave.
• In September 1999, Catharine was invited by NAFAS to stage an individual floral design in the State Apartments of Kensington Palace, London, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the flower arrangement societies.
• Catharine was awarded a first place at the NAFAS National Competitions held in Harrogate in 2001.
• The RHS awarded Catharine a prestigious gold medal for her entry in the 2004 RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
